Gifted & Twice-Exceptional (2e)

Twice-exceptional refers to those who are gifted and also have a learning weakness, whereby they are considered exceptional because of both their strengths and their limitations. While these individuals are highly intelligent, challenges may involve dyslexia, ADHD, autism, anxiety, or other weakness that affect learning and/or everyday functioning. High abilities may also be masked by challenges, whereby children who are twice-exceptional may struggle in a conventional school setting. Others may find academics easy but are perceived as lazy or as having learning difficulties due to boredom or frustration. Gifted individuals may also present with perfectionism or emotional intensities that affect their social and emotional functioning.

Identifying a person as twice-exceptional can help provide focus on their remarkable strengths, while also developing appropriate recommendations that fit their unique needs. I provide a range of evaluations that are tailored to the needs of the individual. These vary in scope from simple IQ testing to comprehensive psychological and educational evaluations.

Prior to moving to Oregon, I worked as a psychologist at Summit Center in California, which is an organization founded by Dr. Dan Peters and Dr. Susan Daniels, both experts in the field of gifted/2e. Working with numerous individuals and families, as well as collaborating with my colleagues at Summit Center allowed me to develop this area of specialty and provide these services in Portland.
